Assembly line positioner in gas cooking manufacturer
The image shows the four blocks to set the burners, the iron plate with all the hole combinations to make the different gas cooker models.
The sketch shows the old positioner operation. There is a screw inside of the block to fix it through the threaded balls to the iron plate. All holes in the iron plate mean the different positions which can be used depend on the model which is required to make.
The new positioner was designed to save as much time as possible in the model change. The new positioner operation worked completely different. Firstly, neumatic cilinders were added to the system. Hence, the block design had to be changed. It had a hole in the low body where the cilinder go in to fix the whole block perfectly.

New adjustment system. Block and cylinder. Unigraphics model.
Side view. Block, cylinder and iron plate. Unigraphics model.
There were also changes in the table estructure. Before It worked with long screws to fix the wood table. Now, the redesign shows four click&fix items which are fixed in two rails, removing the problematic wood table allowing to make the model change considerably faster.
To ensure the correct operation of the positioner, a prototype was necessary to evaluate that the redesign satisfy all the requirements to install it in the assembly line. Firstly, a serie of technical drawings were created to make the bespoke pieces in a external company. The image shows the block drawing.
Once I received the pieces, I had to build up the system. The prototype was composed of one block, one neumatic cylinder and the table to support the system.
The last stage was test the prototype. I had to test the safety of the system, the acurancy and the fiability. Each test was successful and the new positioner was installed in the assembly line.
